And Then We’ll Take Berlin
Berlin’s start up scene is bustling. A few weeks ago, Paul Carr and Sarah Lacy from Tech Crunch raved about Berlin, preferring it over London, TechCrunch’s own EU base. This week, Mike Butcher has been in town, and pledged to start coming to Berlin more. Good news for Berlin.
If you follow the Berlin scene, you’ve probably heard about CityDeals, DailyDeal, 9Flats, Plazes, Research Gate, SoundCloud, 6Wunderkinder, Txtr and Wooga (the last three which have this week announced funding). There are many other start ups you probably haven’t heard about. Some of these start ups are just getting off the ground, others have secured funding, are making major partnerships, are generating revenue and are growing nicely.
Part of the reason you haven’t heard of these start ups isn’t because no one is writing about them, it’s because no one is writing about them in *English*. Other startup hubs have English-language news blogs. If you want to know what’s happening in Helsinki or Tel Aviv, check out Arctic Startup or TechAviv. You don’t need to read Finnish or Hebrew.
Over the weekend, SiliconAllee.com is launching. Silicon Allee is an English language news blog dedicated to all-things-startups in Berlin, written in English in Berlin for Berlin. It’s not a company or a media organization. Silicon Allee was started by expat Berlin-based entrepreneurs (I’m involved), supported by Berlin start ups and fueled by the Berlin tech community.
So, if you wanna know what’a happening in Berlin’s tech scene, check out Silicon Allee on Twitter, on Facebook and, starting next week, online. If you’re in Berlin, hope to see you at one of the meet ups.
